Grant Description
Grants of up to $10,000 to New Hampshire nonprofit organizations to preserve historical buildings across the state. Applicants must submit a letter of inquiry prior to submitting a full proposal. Funding is intended to support historic preservation projects, including exterior painting; finishes and surface restoration; fire detection/lightning protection/security systems; repairs to and restoration of porches, roofs, and windows; repairs to foundations and sills; and chimney and masonry repointing.

Applicants must submit a condition assessment or other information demonstrating their understanding of the building’s significance and priority needs that has been prepared or updated within the last five years. Applicants must also submit a cyclical maintenance plan [models are available from the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance]. Preservation projects are strongly encouraged to adhere to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply, organizations must have a 501(c)(3) IRS designation.

Organizations also must have closed any previously awarded 1772 Foundation matching grants to be eligible to apply.

Funding will not be provided to school or religious organizations, or other government bodies (local, state, or federal), and is not available for government-owned buildings.

Pre-Application Information
Timeline:
- Letters of inquiry will be accepted through December 1, 2022.
- Invited applicants will be notified on December 16, 2022.
- Applications will be due February 10, 2023.

Not all letters of inquiry will result in invitations to submit full applications.

Funding is in the form of 1:1 matching grants.
