Grants typically ranging between $10,000 and $20,000 to USA grassroots organizations for programs that preserve the environment. Funding is intended to assist local activist groups in protecting frontline communities and local habitats. Eligible programs will be original, bold, action-directed, and committed to long-term change.
The Corporate Grants Program supports small grassroots activist organizations with provocative direct-action agendas, working strategically on multi-pronged campaigns to preserve and protect the environment. Help is given to local groups that work to protect local habitats and frontline communities through bold, original actions.
Patagonia has a particular interest in making corporate grants to organizations that identify and work on the root causes of problems and approach issues with a commitment to long-term change. They look for innovative groups with proposed projects that are quantifiable, with specific goals, objectives and action plans, and that include measures for evaluating success.
Patagonia supports innovative work that addresses the root causes of the environmental crisis and seeks to protect both the environment and affected communities. It is focused on places where Patagonia has formed a connection through outdoor recreation, and through its network of retail stores nationally and internationally. Patagonia believes support of local battles to protect a specific stand of forest, a stretch of river, an indigenous wild species or a community from a polluting refinery are both effective at building public support and confronting larger, more complicated issues—like climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental justice. Work that brings underrepresented communities to the forefront of the environmental movement and defends communities whose health and livelihoods are threatened by environmental exploitation are encouraged. Multipronged campaigns that push for greater environmental protections and force the government to abide by its own laws are supported.
Patagonia funds work that:
- Is action-oriented
- Focuses on root causes
- Has a clear strategy
- Identifies specific goals and objectives that can be effectively measured to evaluate success
- Builds public involvement and civic engagement
- Works to build an inclusive and diverse environmental movement
