Opportunity for USA public school teachers of grades 6-12 to engage students in STEM-related projects that will address community issues and empower students to give back to their communities. Contest finalists and winners will be chosen at the state and national levels, and winners will receive technology prize packages.

The contest was designed to:

  • Help students give back to community
  • Spark a passion for STEM subjects
  • Build critical thinking and leadership skills
  • Win technology and class materials for their schools

300 State Finalists, 100 State Winners, 20 National Finalists, and 5 National Winners.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Each national winner school receives a $100K prize package including Samsung technology and classroom resources. Plus, all teams get to attend the Final Event in Washington DC to meet with congressional leaders in April.

Each national finalist school receives a $50K prize package including Samsung technology and classroom resources. Plus, all teams get to attend the Pitch Event in New York City to present their working prototypes to a panel of judges in April.

Each state winner school receives a $15K prize package including Samsung technology and classroom resources.

Each state finalist school receives a Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Contest is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States who are twenty one (21) years of age or older and currently employed as full-time teachers in a public Middle School, Junior High School, or High School, grades 6-12, including Charter Schools that are 50% or more publicly funded.

Home School, privately funded Charter School (Iess than 50% publicly funded), Private School, College or University teachers are not eligible to participate or win. Employees of Sponsor, Administrator, and each of their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, retailers, distributors and suppliers (collectively the "Contest Entities"), and the immediate families (spouse, parents, children and siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and individuals living in the same households of any of the foregoing individuals, whether or not related, are ineligible to participate or win a prize. Subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Timeline:
- Entry Period: Teachers submit applications from Aug. 29th - Oct. 23rd (11:59 PM ET).
- First Round: 300 state finalists are selected to submit an activity plan from Nov. 14th - Dec. 4th.
- Second Round: 100 state winners are selected to submit project videos from Dec. 23rd - Feb. 20th.
- Third Round: 20 national finalists are selected to participate in a video voting contest on social media from Mar. 5th - 30th.
- National Winners: 20 national finalists attend a live Pitch Event to demo prototype to judging panel. Five national winners are revealed early April and attend the Final Event.

Samsung employees are volunteering to advise on projects and offer their expertise to all 100 state winners. Mentors are committed to offering informative webinars, Q&A sessions, one-on-one Skype conversations and more.
